There and Back
The Woodcamp Hollow trail in Logan Canyon is a good trail to escape crowds. In the spring there are two large seasonal waterfalls which is what brought me to the trail. The established trail can be very hard to follow and sometimes is overgrown and a bit of a bushwhack. If a little bush whacking doesn't scare you then this is a peaceful and gorgeous hollow that is a great area for solitude. The trailhead is the same as the very popular Jardine Juniper Trail which I also highly recommend. I visited the first week of June and you can see everything was very green. Start out by hiking up the Juniper trail. The first section goes through some shaded spots that are very nice. Make sure to look behind you. There are some very pretty limestone cliffs that are typical of Logan Canyon. You will soon come to a spot where the trail turns east and climbs a little steeper. This is where you will leave the Juniper Trail. From this spot you will turn west and start walking up the hollow. The trail will get less and less faint but there is really only one hollow you can take. Be sure to look at the junction for old wood. This area frequently gets large avalanches and in several spots you can see huge trees that were carried clear down the canyon before stopping. The whole hike you will get great views of the huge ridge between Beirdneau Peak and Mount Jardine but you will never actually see either peak. You will quickly get a far view of one of the waterfalls. The higher up canyon you get the thicker the vegetation becomes. You can see it's very broad and pretty hollow and you can always see avalanche evidence. Eventually you will see both falls. The views down the canyon are very pretty. Eventually the faint trail will completely disappear. I could see both falls well from this spot. I decided to turn around here. It was getting late and it would be a larger bushwhack from here on out. It looks like you could maybe take the creek bed up to one of the waterfalls. They are both over a hundred feet with cascades but have a final fall of at least 25 feet and probably about 60 feet respectively. This was a nice place to visit for an evening hike and I really liked the waterfalls and all the green.
