Point to Point
The Mount Otis Trail begins at the Otis Creek Trailhead and climbs steadily through mixed forest to the top of Mount Otis. Early in the route, hikers pass through dense timber before reaching open meadows dotted with wildflowers in mid to late summer. Stay right at a signed Y-intersection shortly after leaving the trailhead to remain on the main trail. Beyond this point, the path narrows and becomes steeper as it approaches the subalpine zone. Seasonal streams cross the route in a few places.
Above tree line, the trail skirts open ridgelines with expansive views of the surrounding Beaverhead Mountains. The final approach to the Mount Otis summit involves a rocky, moderately steep ascent on a user-defined path. The high summit offers sweeping views of the Pioneer Mountains to the east, making the climb well worth the effort.
