Description
The Wildflower Trail is a loop path that begins at the Diamond Valley Lake Reservoir Marina and follows a 1.8 mile round trip trail to amazing displays of seasonal wildflowers. While the trail can be visited year round, it is most popular and most scenic during the springtime months when wildflower conditions are best. The hike starts along the wide and flat Lakeview Trail before splitting off and followig a loop path that climbs one of the area's ridges. During the right conditions, the slopes along the trails and surrounding hillside are covered in California golden poppies and lupine. Flowers create white, purple, orange and yellow waves that blanket across the surrounding landscape. This trail is extremely popular, and the easy access assures that there will likely be large crowds present during the wildflower blooms.A good amount of visitors stick to the main flat path and don't venture beyond the fork to the climbing portion. After the fork, the trail becomes more of a wide single track that climbs a dirt path, however is still an easy to moderate difficulty level. From the top of the ridge, views across the reservoir, as well as over the city of Hemet are visible. The elevation also affords the best views of the surrounding hillsides which can be covered in flowers.Visitors should be prepared for crowds, especially on weekends when the large parking area can hit capacity. Those visiting during these times should aim to arrive early to avoid the longer wait once the lot sells out. There is a small market at the marina, and a couple outhouses along the hike.Admission rates in 2023 were $11 per vehicle for parking plus an additional $4 per person for trail entry.
