Point to Point
This segment of the Finger Lakes Trail begins near Farmersville, NY, at a pull-off on Farmersville West Branch Road. From the southern trailhead, the route heads north through a quiet stretch of backcountry terrain typical of the Allegheny Plateau—rolling hardwood forest, scattered wetlands, and occasional seasonal streams. The trail follows a singletrack footpath with moderate ups and downs, crossing uneven terrain with roots and rocks underfoot. At roughly halfway, look for subtle shifts in forest composition, with maple, beech, and ash giving way to occasional hemlock stands in cooler, lower-lying areas.
The trail remains within state forest land for its entirety. Navigation is generally straightforward thanks to frequent white blazes, though snow cover or heavy leaf fall may obscure the tread. Wildlife sightings—especially deer, songbirds, and woodland turkeys—are common in this lightly traveled area. Expect muddy conditions in spring or after rain, and wear high-visibility clothing during fall hunting season. The peaceful woodland setting makes this a rewarding point-to-point hike or section for backpackers tackling longer portions of the Finger Lakes Trail.
