Description
From the Ross Pond Parking Area off Vail Road, follow the main trail east toward Holcomb Pond. The path gradually descends through mixed hardwoods and crosses a few intermittent streambeds before reaching the shoreline of Holcomb Pond. Continue around the pond using the informal loop trail that hugs the water’s edge and returns via the same segment. Near the junction with the Holcomb Trail, head north toward Ross Pond via lightly used woods roads and side paths, which may be faint in places. Ross Pond Loop traces a broader arc through dense forest and passes several wetland edges and open glades before rejoining earlier trail segments near the starting point. These routes pass through quiet terrain ideal for spotting wildlife and experiencing solitude, especially in fall when foliage colors are vibrant across the ridges.
