The Broad Meadow Brook Trail begins and ends at the visitor parking area off Massasoit Road in Worcester, MA. Managed by Mass Audubon, this easy, well-marked route follows a combination of trails through hardwood forest, open meadow, and marshland along Broad Meadow Brook. From the trailhead, head west on Holdredge Trail across the brook and surrounding wetland edges. Turn right on Lady Slipper Trail and continue north past Cattail Marsh. Shortly after, take another right onto Cardinal Trail, cross the brook again, and continue north on Troiano Brookside Trail. At the next junction, reconnect with Cardinal Trail and retrace your steps to return to the trailhead.
This route passes a boardwalk and stepping-stone crossing that may flood during periods of high water. Intersecting trails offer optional extensions for longer hikes. The sanctuary is open year-round from dawn to dusk and does not allow dogs or horses. With a variety of habitats and reliable opportunities for bird and wildlife viewing, this is one of the best day hikes near Worcester for a quiet, scenic walk.
