Loblolly

Part of the Dry Creek Trail system, with a total of 26+ miles of trail. Loblolly, aka the "green" trail from the printed maps. This trail has merits when done in either direction. If starting at the south end, it begins off of East Armuchee, not far from the creek crossing. It goes a little uphill through thick forest with pines and ferns, then curves around the hill, then down. What follows is a mile and a half of relatively flat trail, crossing two gravel roads in the process. Eventually, the trail meets a third gravel road, turns right and follows it for about 150 yards, before turning left back into the forest. After this, the trail rises close to 200 feet over the next mile. About halfway up this, there is a spur to the right that goes to the large parking area at the center of the trail system. After the climb, the trail reaches a clearing at the top where it joins the Dry Creek trail, aka yellow, for 100 yards before turning to the right. What follows is almost a mile of rolling and twisting descent and a couple of stream crossings, before the trail makes a short climb to end at its intersection with the Pinhoti Trail. Notes: The trails at Dry Creek are multiuse and a collaborative effort with the equestrian community. It is recommended to take a map available on the NW Georgia SORBA website (or use the Mobile App). Once on the trail, the trail markings are slender vertical signs with a color code and a number, in this case green and 238. There is a large parking area at the center of the trail system, with a $5 per car fee. There is an alternate small parking area where the Pinhoti trail and East Armuchee Rd meet. Finally, this is USFS public land open to hunting, so exercise appropriate caution during hunting season.
