Skyline Trail Hike

The Skyline Trail is a premier loop hike in Mount Rainier National Park, starting from the historic Paradise area. The trailhead is located near the entrance to the Jackson Visitor Center, marked by stone steps inscribed with a quote by John Muir. Hiking the loop in a clockwise direction, the trail climbs steadily for approximately two miles through vibrant subalpine meadows to reach Panorama Point. At an elevation of 6,800 feet, Panorama Point offers spectacular, unobstructed views of Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams, and Mount Hood on clear days. A toilet is available here for hikers. Beyond Panorama Point, the trail begins a scenic descent. Approximately one mile further, it reaches the junction with the Golden Gate Trail, which provides a popular but steep shortcut option back to Paradise. Continuing on the main loop for another 0.75 miles leads to the Stevens-Van Trump Memorial and the intersection with the Paradise Glacier Trail. The final leg of the loop descends into Paradise Valley, eventually passing the scenic Myrtle Falls, where a 72-foot waterfall frames Mount Rainier in the background. From the falls, an easy, paved path guides hikers back to the visitor center.
