102 Ranch Pond Loop

The 102 Ranch Pond Loop is a chance to stretch your legs and disappear into the riverside ecosystem along the Truckee in an area that is otherwise pretty much desert.The pond sits on the property of the former ranch, which now features a trailhead and access to the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail. But wheresas the TPT skirts along one edge of the pond and then out through the trailhead parking area, another lesser used path circle the pond, heading through dense shady cottonwood stands and veering to the edge of the Truckee River. Probably owing to its relatively remote location, this area doesn't see much use. The loop path may see more use from the feral horses the wander through the area than from other hikers, and while visitors may or may not have a chance to see the horses, they will definitely see signs of them everywhere.While parts of this trail are wide and clear, other areas may require some navigating or cutting around seasonal growth to complete the loop. It's not a quick easy hike since seasonal flooding might change the walkable path. But this trail is good for those looking for a slow adventure that can be done at your own pace.Signs of beaver activity is clear, and the path will pass the several areas where one can easily walk to the stoney banks of the Truckee.Our suggestion is walking in a clockwise route since the clear sections of trail head off this way.There are no bathrooms or water, or any other amenities anywhere at the trailhead or along the walk.
