Lockwood Loop

The Lockwood Loop is an easy, well-marked trail in Lockwood Trailhead Park along a historic portion of the Truckee River.Winding along a narrow stretch of park paralleling the Truckee River, The Lockwood Loop is a basic walking path just over a mile in length with several benches and river access points. The trail is great for families with children, as there tend to rarely be crowds at the park. The path itself is peaceful, meandering through the park's sparse vegetation. Unfortunately, proximity to the interstate and neighboring industrial sites remain apparent throughout the trail, but with the river flowing right beside the trail's southern section, it's easy to forget about how near to the urban Reno/Sparks area you actually are.A gate at the far end of the trail provides the option of traveling a little further out along the river. And a historical marks notes this point along the California Trail migration route.There are a few different small spur paths that branch off to private benches or to the river's edge. Aside from fishermen who can often be found near the parking area, this park tends to be off the beaten path and can offer some space to visitors.There is a vault toilet and informational sign at the trailhead, however there is no water available in the park.Lockwood Trailhead Park is open from 8am to 9pm daily.
