Description
Hidden Valley's trails are located on the acreage at Reno's eastern edge where the Washoe Valley abuts the mountains in an area collectively known as Hidden Valley County Park. There are many trails and paths meandering through the mountains over here. The lower-elevation and more gradually sloped trails serve mountain bicyclists and equestrians, while hikers can take the steep rocky terrain and leave the traffic behind for a steep ascent to views over the entire Reno/Sparks metropolitan area. The trails to the top are not signed, but they can be easily discerned by just opting for the route that continues climbing at each intersection. The trail is up a dusty and loosely packed rock path that strenuously climbs just under 1,000 feet over the next mile. Because there are so many trails, hikers can veer from the summit path or continue from the summit further into the mountains, which keeps the trails open for individualizing in terms of difficulty and length. Keep your eyes out for views of the bands of wild horses that live in the mountains in this area. Park hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. There are picnic benches at the trailhead parking area and bathrooms, trash, and water a little further down at the main parking area for the park.
