Description
Putnam County Trailway is part of a larger rail trail system along with the North County Trail and South County Trail that begins in Brewster, NY and ends in New York City. This trail is only a short section of the complete rail trail route. This is a well paved and maintained rail trail that is suitable for families and other activities (roller blading, biking, etc.). Along the path are some benches to rest your legs or get a quick bite. The trail from the northern end starts in a decline before leveling out and meandering. It crosses a lake via land bridge before doing a minor climb. Most of the route is gradual, but it does tend generally upwards when traveling north to south. After one steeper section, the trail continues to wind through mostly dense tree coverage with some views of the countryside.
