The Teal Trail begins near the main parking area off Ludingtonville Road in Wonder Lake State Park and forms a well-marked route through a quiet hardwood forest. From the trailhead, head east and follow signs for the Teal Trail as it winds through rolling terrain. At a signed junction, bear right to stay on the main Teal Trail and begin a steady climb toward the uplands above Wonder Lake.
As the trail curves around the southern edge of the lake, glimpses of water appear through the trees—particularly rewarding in late fall or early spring when the leaves are down. Continue following Teal Trail markers through open woods with occasional rocky footing and gradual elevation changes. Wildlife sightings, including deer and signs of beaver activity, are common along this stretch. In spring, wildflowers bloom throughout the understory. Use the Blue and Yellow trails winding along Orchard and Bare hill to complete the loop, descending gradually to return to the parking area. This trail offers a peaceful option for day hikes in the Hudson Highlands with a mix of forest solitude and lakeside scenery.
