The Leverich Canyon Trail begins at a well-signed trailhead at the end of Leverich Canyon Road, southwest of Bozeman. From the parking area, follow the main trail into a narrow canyon shaded by dense forest. Shortly after starting, the trail begins a steady climb along a series of well-built switchbacks. At the Y-intersection near the start of the loop, most hikers turn right to complete the route clockwise, which offers a more gradual ascent and steeper descent.
As the trail gains elevation, it alternates between forest and open meadows with intermittent views of the Gallatin Valley. Keep an eye out for mountain bikers, especially on corners and descents, as this is a popular shared-use trail. About halfway through, the route levels briefly before descending back into the canyon through tight turns and shaded groves. A seasonal creek parallels the lower section of the trail. This is one of the best moderate day hikes near Bozeman for early-season conditioning or a short outing close to town.
