The Weir Hill Reservation Trail begins and ends at the Stevens Street parking area in North Andover, with an alternate access point off Pleasant Street. Managed by The Trustees of Reservations, this moderate hiking route makes a full circuit around Weir Hill, climbing gradually toward its crest. From the trailhead, follow the yellow-blazed path and turn right onto Stevens Trail shortly after starting. The route climbs through oak-hickory forest, gaining elevation along root-covered segments before reaching a scenic overlook with wide views across the Merrimack Valley.
Continuing downhill, the trail transitions to Alewife Trail as it approaches the shoreline of Lake Cochichewick. It then becomes Cochichewick Trail, following the lake’s edge through wet meadow and rare barrens habitat. Turn left onto Edgewood Farm Trail to return to the trailhead. Hikers can shorten the route using interior connections or extend their outing by linking to additional trails to the north. Open year-round from dawn to dusk, the route may be muddy in early spring. Dogs must remain leashed, and swimming or wading is not allowed due to the lake’s status as a municipal water supply. This half-day hike offers a rewarding mix of ridgeline walking, lakeside views, and varied terrain close to town.
