Little Wenatchee Gorge Trail #1540

The Little Wenatchee Gorge trailhead, marked by an obvious trail sign, is found at the back of Lake Creek Campground along Forest Service Road (FSR) 65. The trail starts by heading through the trees, straight to Little Wenatchee River, which is more of a creek than a river at this point. On a low bluff, overlooking the river, the trail then bends right/west-northwest to follow the river upstream along its forested banks. Continuing up stream, the trail gently climbs with short, more obvious ups and downs in places. Sometimes the trail is right next to the river, and in other places it is off to the right/north away from the river in the beautiful fir forest. Although the trail is above the river for its entire length, the place where the river is in its gorge is from about the 1.1 mile mark to the 1.7 mile mark. Here the views of the river through the trees are more dramatic as it flows deep in its gorge below. There is a small waterfall on the south side if one looks carefully. A few overlooks along the gorge provide good viewing points. At about the 1.7 mile mark the trail turns sharply to the right/northeast and heads uphill. Almost immediately a fire road style path is encountered. Go right/east here to come to where the trail exits onto FSR 65 a little over a mile west of Lake Creek Campground.
