There and Back
This is a nice hike on a well-marked trail through mostly Douglas fir forest to Heather Lake. The first 2.5 miles is relatively flat, then you start to climb, with most of the elevation gain coming in a fairly short 1.6 miles. About 3/4 of the way up the climb, several viewpoints open up to provide beautiful views of the surrounding hills and valleys. There is nothing technical on this trail, but the 1,000' gain in the 1.6-mile stretch may result in some frustrated little ones if hiking with kids.Garnets can be found in the creek and the bedrock along the hike.
