There and Back
This forested, moderately technical singletrack takes you through some classic PNW scenery to end at a mountain lake.Start your moderate climb from the parking lot, hitting a number of switchbacks. After about 1 mile, you'll meet up with the PCT-- take a left and continue along the PCT. The grade gets a little easier as you traverse through a variety of heavy forest and exposed portions. You'll get sneak peak views at the surrounding mountains as you make your way along. A little over 2 miles in, you'll come across an intersection marked with a cairn--continue along the flatter path to get to the lake (turning up the hill to the right will take you to a fading trail with views of the lake and mountains). The trail will soon start to head down in elevation, and you'll start to see the lake over the edge of the trail. Stay left (follow the signs!) to reach the lake, where several rocky outcrops make good rest points, or you can stop along the sandy beach to take in the view. When you've had your fill, turn back the way you came, or continue along the PCT.
Some Issues
The 1st part of trail is the hardest w/a few switchbacks. Otherwise I’d say a gradual climb. We started about 2:30 pm and it was warm and the biting black flies were out along w/mosquitos on our way up & over mt. Early morning wasn’t to bad but as the day got warmer the more they came out. There’s one log to go over at the start, otherwise good trail. Lots of ppl and tons of dogs. If you want solitude this isn’t for you.
