There and Back
From the trailhead at the intersection of Bailey Hill and S. Bertelsen roads, the trail extends flat on the power line road for 0.2 miles. It diverges from the road and winds uphill through 0.25 miles of immersive oak forest before breaking back out into open grass under the power line. A quick 0.3 mile crossing under the power line brings you into mixed oak and fir forest on the south side of the power line. The final 0.4 miles in the forest sets you up for a rewarding view of Mary's Peak and the West Eugene Wetlands at the summit kiosk. An unimproved level gravel road connected to the trail add the opportunity for an additional 1 mile extended loop and exploration of the 250-acre park at the summit.
Wild Iris Ridge Park opened in 2017 and is the newest addition to Eugene's Ridgeline Trail system although it is not yet formally connected to other trails on the ridgeline.
