Point to Point
The route begins at the Timpanooke Trailhead at 7,366' within Timpooneke Campground on UT-92 in the South Fork of American Fork Canyon and finishes at the summit of Mount Timpanogos at 11,749'. From the large parking area, follow Timpooneke Trail #053 south through aspen forest and past an open mountain meadow and stream. At approximately 1.5 miles, the trail reaches Scout Falls on the right, a rustic overlook provides a view of the falls, which serves as a common turnaround for hikers not continuing to the summit.

Beyond Scout Falls, the trail ascends the Giant Staircase through a series of wooded switchbacks and past additional small waterfalls, gaining elevation steadily. The upper trail crosses rocky slopes before entering Timpanogos Basin, the broad cirque below the summit ridge, where terrain opens into exposed alpine ground with wide views to the north. At the far end of the basin, the trail junctions with the Aspen Grove route from the east at Emerald Lake. Continue south onto Timpanogos Summit Trail #054. The summit trail climbs 1,369 vertical feet over approximately 1.3 miles on a broad, rocky ridge with increasing exposure.

Snowfields above Emerald Lake are present through mid-summer and can be hazardous before they consolidate. The stone shelter hut near the summit marks the final approach to the highpoint. Retrace your steps to return.
