Description
Pacific Crest Trail: California Section G is a 113-mile point-to-point section of the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail. This section runs from Walker Pass (Highway 178) to Mount Whitney and enters the High Sierra. The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is a multi-use trail that is open to runners, hikers, backpackers, and horseback riders. This section of the trail passes through several wilderness areas, including Owens Peak Wilderness, Chimney Peak Wilderness, Domeland Wilderness, South Sierra Wilderness, and Golden Trout Wilderness. The trail passes through Sequoia National Park and finishes with impressive views of Mount Whitney (14,505'), the tallest mountain in the lower 48 and a popular side trip for PCT thru-hikers. Among the highlights of this section are the forested hills and peaceful meadows of the Kern Plateau. Rare, high elevation foxtail pine trees. Views of the Owens Valley from scenic rocky outcrops. The Wild And Scenic South Fork Kern River. And, Monache Meadows, the largest meadow in the Sierra.
