The beginning of this loop is on the outside of a switchback going up Guanella Pass from Georgetown. Well designed and maintained singletrack trail through pine trees brings you nearby ledges and cliffs with the Georgetown Loop railway directly below. Many opportunities for unobstructed views of the Valley as well. The return trip is down an old doubletrack mining road, very steep. There are mine adits and vertical shafts which are open, take care to observe from a safe distance.Last 100 yards you must hike on the left side of road against traffic for about 100 yards, pay attention!Mushrooms, various wildlife including bighorn sheep, wild strawberries and flowers can all be encountered on this trail.Between the train, the old mines, views of Georgetown and Silveplume, the plants and animals, this is an excellent quick experience of Georgetown history and nature.
