Description
Green Canyon is one of the more popular activity areas within the Cache Valley area. Due to it's close proximity to town and the large amount of activities it provides. It can be used for hiking, camping, mountain biking, cave exploring, and many other outdoor activies. The road with Green Canyon is used by hikers, bikers, and even vehicles. It is possible to drive non 4x4 vehicles to the end of this hike if you choose to start hiking from there. The main activity that the canyon seems to be focused on is mountain biking. The mountain biking trail weaves in and out of the road. Caution must be taken by any hikers as mountain bikes due come around corners quickly. They most likely can't hear you so be on the lookout at all times. If you are mountain biking, please use caution as well as this is a busy trail and road year round when condition allow. Many people choose to drive their camping rigs up the one of the many primitive camping areas within the canyon. The camping areas are not always marked and you should always check with the local ranger station about use of certain spots. The canyon itself sit adjacent to Mount Naomi Wilderness Area. This is about as close as you can get to the wilderness area by car so many people choose to drive as far in as they can to reach more activies in the wilderness area. The hike up Green Canyon itself is easy, although fairly long as a there-and-back. But the road leads to many other trailheads that begin from this hike. Access to the wilderness area from here leads to peaks like Mount Elmer, and Mount Jardine. There are some smaller through hikes as well that lead to the Tony Grove Backcountry area.
