Loop
This route begins on the east side of Roaring Brook Road, just past a small bridge near a roadside pull-off on the west side of the road. Follow the blue-blazed Gorge Trail uphill along the north side of Felton Brook, climbing steadily through a narrow, rocky gorge with small waterfalls and remnants of old sluice works and mill structures. The ascent is steep in places and can be slippery when wet or icy. After the trail levels out, it reaches a stone arch bridge built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, which spans Felton Brook at the outlet of Felton Pond.
Turn left onto Switchback Trail, then right to reach the edge of Felton Pond. To complete the route, return to Switchback Trail, continue past the stone arch bridge, and descend via the southern segment of the Gorge Trail. The trail follows the brook downhill, offering more views of cascades and forested slopes. This short but vigorous route is a classic day hike in the Berkshires with rewarding views of Felton Pond and the surrounding forest.
