The Explorer Trail is a useful connector between the 6' culvert that connects the west side of Robles to the Starr Pass trails. It can also be used to access the Cat Mountain Trail, which provides the best sustained technical climbing and descending in the Tucson Mountains. The Explorer Trail begins at the intersection of 44th and Greasewood.
Starting from the culvert, the trail is initially doubletrack but quickly transitions to singletrack with abundant loose rocks as you progress northwards. There are some unpleasant, loose, rocky climbs that present a technical, fitness challenge.
Perhaps the best aspect of this trail is its views of Cat Mountain from the southeast.
