This easy forested route begins near the visitor area at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site in Hyde Park, NY. From the main trailhead, follow signs for the Cove Trail as it winds gently downhill through mixed hardwood forest. At the first Y-intersection, stay right to descend toward the Hudson River, eventually reaching the cove area with partial water views. After skirting the edge of the forested shoreline, the trail turns inland, climbing gradually back through dense woods and open understory. Stay right at the next junction to continue the loop, passing mossy stone walls, interpretive signs, and occasional glimpses of the Roosevelt estate through the trees.
Though the route remains mostly shaded and mellow, expect occasional muddy sections and uneven footing, especially after rain. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed. The trail is open year-round and accessible during daylight hours, though winter conditions may make some sections slick. With easy navigation and a mix of natural and historic interest, this route is ideal for a casual walk or introductory day hike in the Hudson Valley.
