During winter, the road to the trailhead is closed, but there is a parking area outside the closed gate. When this gate is closed, this will add approximately 2 miles of dirt road rxhing along the Gallatin River to get to the trailhead.

Storm Castle is a fairly easy out-and-back hike with a steady, constant altitude change over the course of the trail. There are many great views of the surrounding hills and mountains in the distance, and the views of the Gallatin River and the canyon keep improving as you approach the top of the "castle".
