Barker Dam Road South

This trail is the service road on the top of the Barker Dam. Barker is a "rolled-earth" dam; it was constructed by using the adjacent soil. The primary purpose of the route is maintenance access for the Corps of Engineers. The trail begins just south of the dam's outlet structure. A paved ramp runs from the George Bush Hike and Bike Trail up to the top of the dam. The dam road is coarse gravel. The eastern 8.5 miles of the trail are coarse gravel. The western two miles are concrete. There are road crossings at Noble Road, Westheimer Parkway, S. Barker Cypress Road, Mason Road and S. Peek Road. With the exception of Noble, all are high-speed arterials; be careful crossing. There are gates to prevent motor vehicle entry which can be easily crossed. The trail dead ends just east of Grand Parkway.
