Totaranui Beach Track to Waiharakeke Bay

Totaranui Beach Track to Waiharakeke Bay is a moderately challenging hike located in Abel Tasman National Park. The trail travels through coastal forest and along beautiful beaches. This out and back hike is 5.7 miles long and gains 994 feet of elevation.This hike starts from the Totaranui Campground. There are bathrooms available here. Begin hiking south on Coastal Track. After 0.3 miles, you will enter a lush forest. Another 0.4 miles will bring you to a spur trail for Skinner Point. From Skinner Point, you will have an excellent view of Totaranui Beach and a rocky seashore. Continue uphill on Coastal Track. After 0.4 miles, you will reach the top of the hill and begin hiking down towards the coast.After another 0.5 miles, you will emerge from the forest and continue hiking along a beautiful sandy beach. You will have great views of Goat Bay and will pass by the Goat Bay Campsite. Another 0.4 miles of trekking will bring you back into the forest. Follow the up and down trail through the forest. You will enjoy periodic views of the ocean. After 0.9 miles, you will reach the Waiharakeke Bay Campsite. This campsite is adjacent to a pristine beach. You will have beautiful views of the beach and Waiharakeke Bay. Once you have taken ample time to enjoy the beach, turn around and retrace your steps to return to the trailhead.Abel Tasman National Park is open for hiking year round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are not allowed on this trail.
