Description
Starting at the main parking lot on Park Road 66, hike east along the road for less than a quarter of a mile until you reach the marked trailhead on the right side of the road. This is the beginning of the Prairie Trail, which will meander through marshes for its entire length. At about 0.4 miles there is an option to turn left onto the Freshwater Pond Trail, but continue straight to continue on the Prairie Trail. After another quarter mile there is a 4-way intersection, and you'll turn left to stay on the trail. The path to the right and straight ahead are usually mowed and walkable, but they eventually dead end and you'll have to return to the intersection anyway. After making the left, the Prairie Trail continues for a short distance until it meets up with the Freshwater Pond Loop. To return to the parking lot, you have the option of retracing your steps or combining the Freshwater Pond Loop and Freshwater Pond Trail to work your way back.
