Dyer Mountain

This 3.1-mile round-trip route climbs Dyer Mountain, a Colorado 13er neighboring Mount Sherman. The hike starts at 12,113 feet and reaches the 13,852-foot summit, with an elevation gain of approximately 1,740 feet. Beginning near concrete parking barriers, the path follows the remnants of an old dirt road. After crossing a shallow creek, the route continues uphill. Approximately one mile in, the old road fades, and the route crosses the creek a second time, entering the Iowa Amphitheater. This area contains the historic ruins of the Continental Chief Mine, including abandoned cabins and machinery. From the amphitheater, the path leads left, climbing steeply to a high meadow situated beneath power lines running between Dyer Mountain and Gemini Peak. From the meadow, climbers can either ascend steeply to the saddle and follow the east ridge, or cross the meadow to navigate the less steep south slopes. The final approach involves choosing a path through loose scree to reach the summit, which offers panoramic views of the Mosquito Range. Hikers can also connect this route with West Dyer, Gemini Peak, or Mount Sherman.
