Description
Wild Cherry Creek Trail #748 is a rugged, high-altitude route located within the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness in the San Isabel National Forest. Beginning at its intersection with the Rainbow Trail at approximately 8,530 feet, the trail ascends 3,250 feet over 5.2 miles to reach Cherry Lake, which sits at 11,811 feet. The path runs parallel to the creek, climbing at a steady and challenging grade. The lower sections of the hike wind through extensive groves of mature aspen, which transition to subalpine forests of spruce, fir, and ancient bristlecone pine at higher elevations. The trail culminates in a high alpine basin containing Cherry Lake, which is surrounded by towering peaks. As the trail lies entirely within a designated wilderness area, motorized and mechanized equipment, including bicycles, are prohibited. Backcountry campers and hikers must adhere to standard wilderness regulations.
