Trail Overview

The trail kicks off under heavy, lush forest canopy along packed dirt trails that follow the natural valley terrain. This section is known for having several large, permanent mud puddles and deep water wallows stretching across the width of the trail. Momentum and proper tire placement are key here to handle the soft clay-mud bottoms without bottoming out. As you approach the end of the route near Coalwood, the backcountry trail passes local historical markers. A primary landmark along this corridor is the community park dedicated to the "Rocket Boys" Homer Hickam historic launch site, featuring a prominent miniature space shuttle replica and a neighborhood basketball court.
