Trail Overview

A county dirt track running primarily along the Shavers Fork River in Randolph and Tucker counties. The majority of the track lies in Monongahela NF. Careful attention should be paid to private property boundaries along the river. The track is a mix of gravel and dirt easily traversed by most vehicle types. Pay attention to local forestry signage about area dispersed camping use. Stuart Recreation area along the route provides camping, swimming, and other activities. Bear Heaven Campground offers primitive fee camping. The route also gains elevation at points and passes by the Bickle Knob fire tower with 360-degree views of the area.

Great winding trail/local road. Sits 20-30ft above the river line most of the time but right on it. Great views of a wide and shallow river, even better in the rain.

Trail was in great shape as usual. Nice easy meandering drive through the mountains along the river.

Easy trail, no issues whatsoever, beautiful views. However, I will say I enjoyed it when it had almost 2 feet of snow on my previous visit.

First time driving through the valley and I’m glad I went out of my way. Shavers Fork is absolutely stunning—even in the cold wet conditions. Not that I wish I were in another part of the country, but it sure felt like I was in Montana or Wyoming. I don’t think I even passed even one car, but I saw a few deer dodging arrows.

First section coming from the Parsons to Stone Lake Run Trail was not bad. Muddy and snowy. The section after passing Stuart Rec Area, climbing towards Bickle Tower was extremely rough due to the recent blizzard. I was in 4x4 low and still sliding parts of it, just riding in the tracks of someone infront of me. Met another OnX-er (ride pictured) as they were turning around. Big thank you again if you're reading this. While attempting to turn around on the side of the mountain I got my truck buried in the snow in a ditch and this guy helped me for about 30 minutes dig out and spot me as I turned around. Not an ideal thing to be doing in a full size, crew cab 6.5ft bed truck on the side of the mountain.
