Trail Overview
Nile Road to Gauley River is an easy, scenic 1.25-mile downhill trail near Persinger, West Virginia, perfect for beginners and families looking to access a remote beach on the Gauley River. This unpaved route starts at an elevation of 2,124 feet and steadily descends 458 feet to the riverbank at 1,665 feet, offering a quick but engaging drive through dense hardwood forest. The trail is rated a 1 on the technical difficulty scale, making it highly accessible for most stock high-clearance vehicles and standard four-wheel-drive setups during the warm, dry seasons.
The trail terminates at a spacious beach area near the historic Persinger Ford and the mouth of Persinger Creek, where visitors will find an old boat launch and ample room for multiple vehicles to park and gather. This end point serves as an ideal basecamp for wading, fishing, hiking, and primitive camping along the river's edge. Access Description
