Trail Overview
Wolverine Canyon is a visually striking trail that winds through a vibrant desert canyon carved by time and water. The route travels through sandy washes filled with small rocks and is lined with greenery, including trees and thick bushes that thrive in the lower terrain. What truly sets this trail apart are the towering canyon walls, painted in layers of red, gray, purple, and brown--a stunning natural display that becomes even more dramatic as the canyon narrows past mile 6. A gate marks this transition point; be sure to close it behind you. From here, the trail gets more rugged, with rockier sections and tighter passageways framed by steep rock faces. Expect small drop-offs and some soft sand along the way, and be cautious after rain, as the washes can become muddy and slick.
Difficulty
Generally manageable but includes loose sand, rocky areas, and mild technical spots. High-clearance vehicles are recommended; 4x4 may be needed in poor conditions or after rain.
