Trail Overview
This route branches off Ruby Ranch Road at D147 and provides access to the White Wash sand dunes, OHV riding area, camping zones, and open desert recreation terrain. The upper section begins as a maintained gravel road that is generally easy to travel and suitable for a wide range of vehicles. As the route drops closer to White Wash, conditions become rougher and less maintained, with increasing rocks, washouts, and uneven surfaces. Several hills along the descent can become the main challenge, especially for visitors towing travel trailers or longer rigs with lower breakover angles. In those spots, there is a real risk of high centering if speed, line choice, or hitch clearance are misjudged. Sprinter vans and similar adventure vehicles may handle the route well with proper driving and dry conditions. Overall, this road serves as a practical access route to one of the region’s most popular riding and camping areas while still offering a taste of backcountry terrain.
Difficulty
The upper portion of this route is easy maintained gravel, but difficulty increases as you near White Wash where rocks, washouts, and uneven hills become more common. The biggest concern is breakover angle and potential high centering on hills, especially for trailers or long wheelbase vehicles. Most stock high clearance 4x4s vehicles can complete it in dry conditions without major trouble.
