Trail Overview

This trail begins just off US Highway 6 at Soldier Summit. The vegetation transitions from sagebrush and willows that follow the White River up to higher-elevation pine and aspen. These Forest Service roads are mostly graded and easy for most vehicles depending on weather. Wildlife viewing and picture-taking opportunities are abundant as you traverse to higher elevations and then descend again to the Soldier Summit, which is about 7,400 feet above sea level.

Difficulty

These are mostly Forest Service roads with a few ruts and mud holes depending on weather conditions. They make for amazing snowmobile riding in the winter.

most of the trail is super easy and most vehicles can do it but some parts of the trail become narrow and with large rutts from side to side. 4wheelers and ATVs would have no problem as the could avoid them but if you have a larger vehicle like a jeep or a truck you will scratch it and it will be a bumpy ride my stock f150 had no problems doing this trail but it did take us a while aswell as it's scratched up I bottomed out in a few areas

From Soldier Summit if you take the right fork yes I’d give it a 2 technical rating the left fork is more like a 5+ if you are not on a ATV or SBS it is extremely rough.

Snowy with up to and over 12” deep in some spots once you enter Uinta National Forest. Under the snow it’s hard slippery ice. Decided to turn around at the intersection of Timber Canyon when it started getting deep going up hill. Seems like everyone before did the same since we followed previous tracks and they all ended where I turned around and or proceeded to Timber. Going clockwise left of the fork at Solider Summit results in the same conditions deeper into the trail.

Nice 36 mile loop accessible off Rt 6 at Soldier Summit. Very scenic as are most Utah elevations. The serenity of the crisp smell of fall cruising through high mountain aspen and pine forests is tough to beat. Good for forgetting the past work week and recharging for the next. Most of the trek was effortless however you will encounter some washouts to transverse and this time of year, be prepared for some snow and ice to turn you back. I only encountered moderate snow and mud this time around and completed the loop in a little over 2 hours. I attempted the same loop in late November last year and was turned back by snow half way in. Very worthy ride!

Drove the whole loop this evening and would not consider it a 2-level difficulty. Major washout that made the trail much more technical than usual.
