Trail Overview
White House Trailhead Road is a 4-mile out-and-back trail rated 3 of 10 located in Kane County, Utah. This is a destination trail that offers three unique destinations. The first is the White House Campground which offers a remote dark sky experience. The campground offers both trail and tent sites (fee required). The second feature is a hike to a rare sandstone feature called "The Nautilus." This is a short 1-mile round-trip easy hike down a sand wash. The third is the end of this road where the Paria Canyon trailhead begins. There is no fee required to hike to "The Nautilus" or to hike around the campground area. You'll need either a Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Day or a Paria Canyon Overnight Permit. According to the BLM, the road that accesses the permit area is unpaved and minimally maintained. Most of the time, it is possible to reach the trailhead in a two-wheel-drive, high-clearance vehicle. However, four-wheel-drive, high-clearance vehicles may be required when the road is wet. During the rainy season and the winter months, the road may become impassable for all vehicles, even those with four-wheel drive. Once leaving Highway 89, cell phone service trails off. The nearest services are in Kanab to the west or Big Water to the east.
