Trail Overview

This is a continuation of the lower Ward Canyon Road. It continues winding up the mountainside with amazing views off of the side of the road. The trail has a few ruts and small rock gardens but there shouldn't be any issues getting any car up here. At the top, you get a view out to the west and the east showing both sides of the mountain. There are more trails at the top to continue exploring. On the way up the road there are trails that only small ATVs or dirt bikes can access.

Difficulty

There are some small ruts that can have a little bit of water flowing through them in the spring and early summer and there are no obstacles over 6" tall.

Gate is closed at old ward canyon intersection on the Bountiful side.

Gate appears to be open but the trail is not open! My guess is somebody cut the lock/chain as the gate isn't secured open it's just not shut, do not travel up the trail even though the gate is open, it is extremely muddy and you will be chewing up the road base really bad. I plan on calling the forest service to double check and let them know the gate ended up open.

Good condition to the Skyline junction. Lots of traffic on a weekend, but generally 2 cars wide, so easier to handle flow than Farmington.

A heavily used trail. Lots of people shooting into culverts on road bends and lots of teenagers hanging out. The trail itself is dusty and washboarded, with some small rocks, rough spots, and ruts. Too busy if you're looking to get away from everyone, but good views.

Lower half direct on the trail head gravel per usually half way up smooth some rutting from wash out and wash board dusty. upper ward canyon last 4th of the trail gnarly wash out and rutting in some places 1 to 2 on the tec rating for most of the trail 3s in some spots. 8 inch clearance should be fine for the whole trail.
