Trail Overview

The eastern end of this ATV segment of Trail 16 starts at a turnoff from a road portion of Trail 16, at a 50” pinch point that departs from the road alternate. The route follows a wide shelf trail cut into the mountainside, elevated above Twomile Creek, as it traverses the hillside through a forested corridor between pines and aspens. The shelf is mostly gradual the whole way, with a couple of steeper spots, making one big hairpin turn after 1.3 miles, and gaining over 600 feet in elevation over the course of the 2-mile-long route. The one big switchback is wide and gradual, with a bit of embedded rock, but it is still easy and approachable. Expect some minor loose rock and potential for downed logs. The trail is on the north-facing side of the mountain, so it can still have some snow drifts in late spring, even when the rest of the trail system is clear of any snow. There is a picnic table at the hairpin turn that makes for a fun rest stop.
