Trail Overview

Seaman Wash Road-BLM563-KC3400 is an 8.6-mile point-to-point rated 3 of 10 located within Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Seaman Wash is a single-track road that connects Highway 89 with Nephi Pasture Road. Seaman Wash runs through a red rock canyon with steep walls and interesting rock formations. The road crosses several washes which may be more difficult to cross after bad weather. The road consists of mostly hard pack dirt and sand which can be deeper crossing washes. Once into the interior of the national monument cell phone coverage is limited to the trail closer to Highway 89.

Difficulty

Trail consisting of loose rocks, dirt, and sand with some slickrock surfaces, mud holes possible, no steps higher than 12". 4WD may be required, aggressive tires a plus.

Reports 1-2 months old indicated obstacle. Two big boulders in path to work your way around or over. Saw no indication of this.. also no indication of anyone "fixing" this spot. (I guess this is possible but I could not see where any had been moved) Did not need to stop, or use four by four. The trail may be a little deteriorated from a year ago but is no problem and a lot of fun.

We came in from the top, but this trail is quite deteriorated. Had a rough time getting through. Our mostly stock Tacoma barely made it out. I would personally rate this higher than a 3.

mostly hard packed sand. one semi significant obstacle about 8 miles in from hwy 89 to get around a couple of large rocks in the path. besides that obstacle it's a 2 rated trail. that obstacle does require 4x4 in a Jeep and tire placement, but easier than it looks. besides that obstacle the drive is scenic and easy

Did a through route from Johnson Canyon to Hwy 89 via Nephi Pasture Rd and Seaman Wash Rd. All open with no issues.

Steep hills with large ruts, washed out sections causing hills to be off-camber. Loose dirt in spots. Driven in December in the dark. Still a lot of fun!
