Trail Overview
Salt Wash North begins near Crystal Geyser just south of Green River, Utah, and travels south through a remote stretch of desert country before ending high above the Green River at a locked gate overlook. The road is a useful main route in the area, providing access to other trails such as the Salt Wash Trail and segments of the Orange Trail system. For most of the drive, the route is a fairly maintained gravel road that is easy to follow and suitable for a stock high clearance 4x4 in dry conditions. Along the way, drivers will encounter a few washouts, mild rough sections, and some steeper hills, but nothing overly technical for prepared vehicles. What makes the route memorable is the scenery. Multi-colored layered sandstone formations rise around the road, creating classic Utah views that feel increasingly remote the farther you travel. Near the end, a closed and padlocked gate marks the turnaround point, where sweeping views open across the Green River below and the surrounding desert cliffs beyond.
