Trail Overview
Ponderosa Loop Mini (Trail #44 of the Markagunt OHV System) is a 1.6-mile loop through Dixie National Forest’s ponderosa pines. Located on the Markagunt Plateau, this beginner-friendly route features a gentle 158-foot elevation gain, making it ideal for families, side-by-sides (SxS), and ATVs.
With a technical rating of 2, the unpaved dirt surface contains minor ruts, small erosion spots, and occasional rocky patches but presents no major obstacles. The trail serves as an easy warm-up ride or connector near Duck Creek Village.
Difficulty
There are a few ruts and erosion spots on the trail, plus a few rocky patches, but aside from that nothing too difficult.
Access Description
Located within the Dixie National Forest, this trail requires a standard Utah OHV registration or an approved out-of-state permit. The route experiences seasonal winter closures and is generally open from late spring through late autumn depending on snowpack levels.
