Trail Overview
Old River Bed Road is a 5.7-mile point-to-point trail rated 2 of 10 in Tooele County. This county-maintained road extends south from Simpson Springs-Callao Road and provides views of Table Mountain and Warehouse Rock. Simpson Springs-Callao Road is part of the historic Pony Express Route between Salt Lake City and Fort Ruby in Nevada. The road travels through high desert grazing lands and an occasional salt flat. The south end of the road is at the county boundary with Juab County where it becomes Riverbottom Road. The county line is rather distinctive here as it splits the two peaks to the west (Warehouse Rock at 4,869 feet and Cup Butte at 5,239 feet). The road consists of dirt and crushed, compacted gravel, and is graded by the county on an irregular basis. This road has been used since the early 1940s by local ranchers and more recently for recreational sports and access to the Keg Mountains just south of the road end. The nearest services are in Delta to the south and Eagle Mountain to the east.
