Trail Overview

ATV Trail 70 is one of the longer ATV routes in the trail system, at almost 7 miles long. The west end starts out with a gradual climb between a narrow corridor of pine trees. There are chunky embedded rocks within the loamy soil, with loose baby heads that can ping you around. It goes through a forest of lodgepole pines, where it may be common to have some small downed log hazards. There are frequent trail markers throughout the route to help you follow it. There are a few hairpin turns and shallow rocky stream crossings in the beginning. Expect lots of bigger embedded rock surfaces that you must ride over, like flat boulder faces or small rock gardens. You go over a metal 50-inch pinch point and through a pine tree tunnel that is fast and straight. It comes to an intersection with Trail 71, and turns left on a road before connecting to another segment of ATV trail. The next section is a bit rockier, with a heavier layer of embedded flat slab rock that you ride over. It goes through a narrow forested trail with more frequent downed logs, loose and embedded rocks, slippery roots, tight turns, and small drop-offs and ledges formed from the embedded roots and rocks. It requires tight maneuvering over the rocks. It connects to a road again one more time before the last segment of ATV trail that takes you to East Park Reservoir.

Difficulty

Overall, this is an intermediate difficulty ATV trail because it is very rocky for the entire 7-mile route. There are frequent rock gardens and rocks of all sizes, including small, round, loose rocks to embedded boulders. The trail has small drop-offs and ledges from the embedded roots and rocks, and conditions can be slick with mud and water on the trail. It is physically demanding and a long and slow route.
