Trail Overview

This trail provides access to the popular Moonscape Overlook viewpoint. It is very frequently visited for photos and camping. Please be extremely cautious at the overlook, one teen tragically fell to their death here. Remember to be respectful to others and share this popular space, if people are already camping here, there are lots of other campsites on nearby spur trails. There are many spots where this trail has been widened due to avoiding obstacles/mud with low clearance vehicles, so please remember to tread lightly and stay on the trail so it does not get shut down.

Difficulty

This route is pretty easy in a stock 4x4 vehicle with decent clearance. However, there are some areas where there are small ledges, ruts, and potential mud holes after rain.

super dry, bumpy but not bad. very manageable, sunny and dry very few mud puddles with the soft clay

Definitely a rough trail with very uneven rocks. No elevation gain or loss though. The reward is well worth it and the end of the trail is a great spot to pass the night if you’re in the area looking for some place to sleep.

155D road just north of this trail is a bit smoother for accessing Moonscape Overlook, would recommend avoiding this trail in a low clearance vehicle due to deterioration, rough uneven ride, and potential damage without adequate clearance. Relatively easy for 4x4 with high clearance but not a smooth ride at this time, most vehicles appear to be using the 155D road which is in better condition but still slightly rough in places. Traveled in dry conditions, advise caution before/after rain.

The marked trail in onx takes you on a pretty rough road for the last bit. It’s much easier to take 91 north, and then take a right on 91_3 then left on 155D to end up on moonscape overlook. This way is a much smoother ride. The suggested route is very rocky and rutted. If taking that route I’d suggest airing down to make it more comfortable.
