Trail Overview

This trail runs through Monarch Canyon and passes a historic mine that was established in the 1870s. Most of the trail is an easy two-track trail, with a couple of small rocky sections that may be a challenge for low-clearance vehicles. A spur trail runs up along the cliffside and goes to some of the historic mining remains. The trail is a narrow shelf road, so it would not be recommended for wider vehicles or those afraid of heights.

We did the trail from west to east and I’m glad it worked out that way. The trail is barely wide enough for one vehicle, off camber in a few places and the decent from the west to east is currently very rutted and rocky. I scraped skid plates in several areas. I would recommend lifted and/or tires taller than my 31” tires with 4x4 if you are going from east to west. We stopped at the old Monarch Mine site and looked around. It’s always cool to see these old places even if there isn’t much left of them.
