Trail Overview

Branching off the graded road, the trail becomes more difficult with steep climbs, narrow passages, rock gardens, and exposed ledges. The reward of taking this difficult path is seeing quite a few old mines and a couple of old cabins. There are quite a few spots that would make for a superb campsite. Cell coverage can be spotty along this route. I recommend traveling this route when the ground is dry--many side trails go to other mines and places to explore.

This loop is a tale of two trails. We started on the north, and it's a two-way mostly graded road until you reach a mine. You'll see a structure. If you have 4x4, drive up the trail across from it to the mine. There are several shafts scattered. Continuing on the trail from there is a narrow and rough road that may be too narrow in places for a full size truck. Recommend 4 low coming down the back side to control your speed. There are several more mines along the route. Eventually you'll reach a smooth graded road that returns you to Cherry Creek trail. Our route deviated from the OnX route some.
