Trail Overview

This portion of the Great Western Trail stretches from the red rock-covered low lands around Loa up onto the Thousand Lake mountain plateau. The higher elevations are covered in Pine and Aspen trees. There is an abundance of wildlife from the Rocky Mountain Elk, Mule Deer, Coyote, and smaller rabbits, Chipmunk, and squirrel.

Very Rocky, it was slow going because of how rocky it was.

Trail start off nice and fun for a bout a quarter of a mile then it becomes extremely technical with large sharp rocks everywhere that you have to go over. In addition, there are trees and muddy areas that are virtually impossible to pass. I wouldn't take a dirt bike or adventure bike up this trail as you will be on your butt alot. ATV and small 50" side by sides are ok but some parts will be a challenge to pass. Don't go if you don't know what your doing. We ended up getting a flat tire near the north end because of all the sharp rocks. There are funner options out there.
